Life in the Civil War by Sara
I chose this topic because I have always been interested in how people live back then. Life today is so much easier than it was back then and my project wasn't just about battlefield life. It was about back at home and how hard it was for them. One thing to remember is not to get the Confederate and Union flags mixed up. For my next project, I would like to study about presidents of the US because it is really cool to see how they have changed over time.
Carolina Tarheels by Luke
I chose this project because I have liked UNC all my life and I think they are the best team ever. My project took a really long time with everything I had to do. The 3D model took 8 hours and the board another 2 hours. So it is really important to not wait until that last second to do it. I learned about how the basketball team started at Carolina. I might like to study about snakes because I think they look really cool and would be interesting to learn about.
Greek Mythology by Spencer
I chose Greek mythology for my topic because I wanted to learn about new thing. I was interested in it before but I thought my project would help me learn more. I found a lot of interesting facts to tell people about. I made a 3D model of a chariot and had a friend of my sister to dress up as Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war. I learned a lot about Greece's past and a little about the present. I would like to study about wolves because they are very interesting animals.
South Dakota by Kendall
I chose this topic because I took a trip there this past summer and I really enjoyed it. I made Mount Rushmore for my 3D model. With my Grandmother's help, I made a scrapbook. In interviewed the lady that was the instructor of our trip. One thing I learned was that the same person who is building Crazy Horse helped build Mount Rushmore. I think it would be cool to learn about fish and sea animals for my next project.

Guinea Pigs by Sadie
I selected this topic because I thought it would be a fun project to do, and I have a guinea pig as a pet also. I made a 3D model of a guinea pig cage. Most of my information came from books I read. My interview with Dr. Anason took place in Virginia. I learned that you can not wait until the last minute to finish and do it throughout the year. I want to study the poison dart frog next year.
Carolina Panthers by Will
I chose the topic of the Carolina Panthers because my family got season tickets and the Panthers are my favorite team. With my project, I made a Panther football field, the tunnel, a biography of DeAngelo Williams, an interview of Sir Purr, a Carolina Panther timeline, statistics from 2010-2011, futuristic jerseys, Panther powerpoint, and a scrapbook about the stuff I got at the game. All this stuff I got and made are very cool and I hope you can see it in person. One thing I learned is don't believe its true until you know it is true. I would like to study about the structure of the Panther's stadium.
Fort Macon by Jackson
I chose this topic because I have always enjoyed going there and seeing the inside of the fort. I made a 3d model of the fort out of sand, vinyl siding and Popsicle sticks. My board was more focused around the history of the fort. I have pictures of Union soldiers and Confederate soldiers. I have a Venn-diagram of the differences of the Civil War and World War II. I learned that this was North Carolina's first fully functioning state park. I want to study about the Outer Banks for my next project.
Tornadoes by Noah
I selected this topic because I think tornadoes are interesting and cool. I made a board with a lot of information in it. There is information about how a tornado forms, what causes a tornado, the fugita scale, how to make a tornado in a bottle, signs of a tornado. Also I include were tornadoes happen most often and the Greensburg tornado. I learned that doing a project of this size can be really fun. I would like to study about NASA because I love space and NASA.
US WWII Airplanes by Worth
I really enjoy learning about World War II so I thought the airplanes would be fun too. My favorite part of my project was making the 3D model because I love building planes. I also went to visit the airplane museum and took pictures for my scrapbook about different types of planes. I learned that you need to start early on a project of this size or you'll fall behind. I would want to study about lava lamps because they are cool and I like their bubbles.
The Battle of Gettysburg by Megan
The reason I chose this topic is because I wanted to learn more about Gettysburg because it look interesting when we talked about it in school. In my expert project I did many things but my favorite was making my battlefield. The first thing I did to make this was color the soldiers blue and gray for Confederate and Union. I also made a path and up a few trees. I also put some horses on to make it more realistic. I learned to not wait until the last minute when doing a project of this size. I hope to study about spider monkeys next year for the science far.
Sea Turtles by Andrew
Every summer I get to see how sea turtles function when they are hatched and relocated. I thought it would be neat to further research how they survive and what dangers they face throughout their life. In this project I was able to talk about different species, and several facts about each species. I also found out what threats sea turtles face and how you can help. Another thing that I researched was organizations that help, and how they help. My favorite part of the project was publishing my own book and doing a 3D model of a sea turtle next. I learned that if you do what is challenging first, then you won't have to rush at the last minute. Next year, I would like to study about how businesses use technology.
Snakes by Destiny
I picked the topic of snakes because snakes seem interesting. I went to a lot of different places to research and get pictures. I put information about the types of snakes in NC and different snake story encounters. I compared different types of snakes that are found in Randolph County and made a model of a snake habitat. I learned that a project of this size takes a lot of time. I want to study more about the most venomous snakes around the world.
Miss NC Pageant by Whitney
I chose this topic because I have recently participated in the program. It was such an amazing experience that I decided to learn more. I put a timeline of my experience of participation before, during and after the pageant. I also took a survey with people of all ages about some of their favorite type of pageant competition. Lastly, I took an interview with Amanda Watson Bailey and Mr. Lane Ragsdale. I learned that if you are not organized and you don't have all your information in one spot, it makes it harder to finish on time. I would be interested in learning more about that past Miss NC's and what they did when they won.
Michael Jordan by Will
I chose Michael Jordan for my topic because he was the best basketball player who ever lived. I learned that his vertical jump is 4.8 feet in the air. He is the best basketball player and his hand is 25 cm big. I also included more information about his statistics during his basketball career, the teams he played for and other interesting facts about him. I learned not to do a project of this size at the last second. Also don't rush it and make sure you have enough information.
Tsunami by John
I chose this topic because tsunamis are very interesting based on the survivors and destruction that happened. The strongest tsunami was the Indian Ocean tsunami. It devastated more than 5 countries! The most devastated was Indonesia, the country that was flooded for 6 hours. I learned that most tsunamis are taller than a four foot kid. I want to study about volcanoes and how they worked for the next project.
Cheerwine by Jacob
I selected this topic because Cheerwine is made in North Carolina and I like to drink it. For my board, I put on where you can find Cheerwine and some of the bottles from 1917 to 2011. Also I included some facts about how and when it got started. I learned that somethings you can make with Cheerwine like cake, ice-cream, icing and more. I want to study about NC lighthouses because I now have gone and are interested in them.
Cape Hatteras by Ally
The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was selected because I have been there and it seemed interesting to me. I did a 3D model and a board full of information and a powerpoint. This included information about the history of the lighthouse, stories about Cape Hatteras and a timeline of how/when it was used. I learned that the lighthouse is the tallest in America. I want to study about UNC because I love the tarheels!
Richard Petty by Mason
I selected this topic because I thought it would be kidn of cool to do racing. I did lots of different things with my project. I visited the Petty museum to collect information about my topic and interviewed someone who worked there. I also took pictures to use in my powerpoint and on my board. I collected model cars and made an example of Petty's car. In my opinion, Petty was the bestof them all. Next year, I want to study about space shuttles and how they work.
Cats by Jessica
I wanted to do my project on cats because I have two of them and sometimes I wonder why they do certain things. For my project, I made a cat anatomy picture,a booklet of cat breeds and one on how to take care of your kitten/cat. I also did a venn diagram comparing lions and house cats. I learned about what cats mean when they meow and why they do certain things. I want to do a project about otters because I like to learn about animals.
Linville Caverns by Rachel
I chose Linville Caverns because I've been there and I wanted to learn more. Linville Caverns is a cave located in the side of the Humpback mountain. This cavern is not known for formations but its beautiful range of color. I learned that caves aren't just places to visit. Extraordinary things can happen there. I would like to study about mystery house.
Skateboarding by Walker
I chose the topic of skateboarding because I like it and wanted to learn more. I took pictures of a ollie step by step and then I taped it on one side of my poster board in order. I also did a biography on Rodney Mullen and printed a picture of him for my board. Every paper I put on there I would put colored paper behind it for the background. I learend that early skateboarding was completely different from today's skateboarding. I want to study about Dwayne Wade because he's one of the best people on his team.
Sharks by Zack
I chose sharks as my topic because I knew what they were and wanted to learn more about them. My favorite part about the project was going to the Ripley's Aquariam and riding underneath the shark tank. I learned that you should be creative and have fun when doing this type of project. I want to study next year about the Boston Celtics.
Wild Horses by Karter
I selected the topic of wild horses because I love horses. I painted a model and made a scrapbook and to put together by board. During my project, I learned that many horses are being taken to slaughter and shot. I also learned about ways that people can help projects the wild horses in Corolla. I want to do a project on NC Chapel Hill basketball because Carolina Rules!
ASU football by Montgomery
I chose this topic because my grandpa pulls for ASU and I wanted to learn more about it. I did a biography on Armanti Edwards (old player for ASU football) and I made a 3D model of the black bear. I realized that project of this size takes a long time. I hope to study next year about all stars, because I love sports.
Broadway by Zoey
I chose this topic because I enjoy singing and dancing. First I researched my topic then I did a venn diagram, biography on Andrew Lloyd Webber and some other activities. I learned that Broadway is a big part of New York. I want to study about Julliard next year because I plan to go to college there.
